Happy Birthday Maeve

How can we have had this precious little Irish lady for a whole week as of tonight? It seems both impossible to have had her that long, and even more impossible that she hasn't always been here snuggled in between Adam and me.
We have had a beautiful first week, off to a bumpy start with Maeve's billirubin levels a bit too high and my developing post-partum pre-eclampsia. We ended up in the hospital several days longer than expected; Maeve to do some tanning and Mama to take it easy.
So far, so good though. Our girl is a sweetheart with a redhead's passion. She is seldom upset, but when she is boy does she let you know! Easy to soothe and happiest when cuddled, this little bean is perfect in every way!

Happy Birthday Adam

Happy 26th birthday Adam!!!

In honor of my husband's 26th birthday I've decided to write 26 reasons I'm thankful for him.
1. He makes me laugh harder than anyone I know.
2. He is always gentle and kind.
3. He loves children, and is wonderful with them.
4. He always takes the time to talk me through my over-thinking dramas.
5. He is amazingly sensitive to my needs and sometimes difficult-to-decipher emotions.
6. He is so excited about our daughter.
7. He spoils me on my birthday and Christmas.
8. He takes incredible care of me without my ever needing to ask for some nurturing.
9. He encourages me to dream.
10. He respects and honors women.
11. He never yells when he's angry.
12. He likes to learn new things.
13. He never sees any goal as out of reach.
14. He is confident, but not arrogant.
15. He loves his pipe and fedora.
16. He's teaching himself to play the violin.
17. He can build and fix anything.
18. He has unshakable faith.
19. He sings and dances with me around the house like a fool.
20. He loves me enough to sweetly tell me when I'm out of line.
21. He's not afraid to speak his mind, but always treads lightly when doing so.
22. He enjoys eating healthy.
23. He has a real passion for cooking and is so good at it.
24. He loves the arts.
25. His desire to have adventures together.
26. He is incredibly handsome!

Just the first 26 of many, many reasons I am so thankful for and in love with Adam. He truly is everything I dreamed of having in a husband, plus all the things I didn't know to dream of!

Party Hardy

Last night, at 38wks pregnant, I was a very good sport to my dear husband and "partied" until 3am! Friends of ours host a yearly September Birthdays Party which includes Adam, and we were there for hours and hours last night getting our fun in while we still can! While I didn't get to enjoy the famous Varnell cosmos and margaritas, which looked so tasty, there was plenty of sinfully delicious food and belly-aching laughter.

See 001, your Mommy is a lot of fun, and a pretty good sport. We've had our fun, our lists are checked off. You can come now!

Half a Century Later

I'm sure you were all in celebration with me Monday as one of the years best holidays found us once again. I'm talking, of course, about my birthday. :)

I was a little excited and a little weirded out at the prospect of turning 25, but so far it feels good. Plus, when I'm feeling old it helps that Adam's got a year on me, that old, old man. I spent the day relaxing, much like I am most days now, and at the perinatoligst. You will all be happy to know, I'm sure, that 001 is still looking lovely and that her baseline heartbeat has dropped considerably, which is apparently another sign she's getting herself ready to meet us. They didn't give us measurements this week, though they did tell us she has big feet for being so small, haha. Not much surprise since I'm a size 10.5/11 and Adam is a size 11....she's got little hope for growing up to buy cute little size 6 shoes.

We celebrated in the evening with the yummiest sushi at this great local place not far from our house that even served complimentary saki. Obviously, only Adam got to appreciate this perk, but still. Top it off with some yummy cheesecake and you have a wonderful day. Plus, Tuesday has found me on a mini-babymoon, otherwise known as accompanying my husband on his business trip to Austin. :) Food=Yum!

Bonus! I also got to see a good friend from high school, who was also one of my bridesmaids and she gave me these beautiful birthday flowers:

Brandon's Birthday

November 7th, a fabulous holiday because it's 8MS's birthday. Brandon, unlike the rest of us as our birthdays passed, announced that rather then go out he wanted to get alot of people together and make pizzas and drink good beer.

And, being Brandon, he meant HE wanted to make all the pizzas...and if there is one thing you don't turn down, it's 8MS's pizza. YUM!

We had a great night and were able to hangout with some friends passing through town that we hardly see.

Happy Birthday Brandon!

We're All Getting Older, And The Parties Are More Fun

Adam's 25th birthday was upon us about a week ago, September 19th to be exact. We've adopted the O'Connell tradition of a "friends" party the weekend of your birthday followed by a family party on your actual birthday. Growing up, family dinner was always so special because for me it meant an abundance of cheesy spaghetti and plenty of double chocolate cheesecake, as the rule was you got your favorite food. We started our weekend off Friday night with dinner with our partners in crime-Cydney & Brandon. Recently, Adam and Brandon have joined a Men's Group that meets for 4 hours on Wednesday nights, and they had all planned to meet out Friday night at our local wine bar with their wives. So, after dinner---which was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G, and I have to slide in the detail that Adam told Cydney (who was trying to help by making reservations) "just pick something yummy", we headed out to meet everyone at Crush.

The first of Adam's birthday surprises was that his best friend Mitchell met us at Crush, having just driven all the way in from College Station for the celebration.

It was fun to get to meet most of the guys Adam spends so much time with, and their wives especially!

After hours of talking and laughing, we headed to Mitchell's to swim and hangout in the hot tub, a very lucky thing to have a friend with such fun things at his disposal! Saturday brought us out to Greenbelt lake where we camped, cooked HoBo pizzas, played games and Adam opened presents. His first, from Cydney & Brandon was a beautiful pipe that is so very much Adam, and fitting too since Adam gave Brandon his first pipe last year.

I swear they're both really 65, trapped in 25yr old's bodies! The best surprise of all, although I am quite biased, was getting to give Adam his violin he's wanted for 4 years. He was so excited, and a day later already had a song down!

Sunday, his actual birthday brought us family day, and Adam's choice was to watch Mythbusters re-runs and eat grilled cheese with tomato soup, a very, very easy request to fulfill. I love that our way to celebrate is to spend as much time with our friends as possible, and then to relax and cut away the world on our family day, even if it's just for some grilled cheese. Happy Birthday Adam! I love you very much, and can't wait to celebrate the next!

U2 Concert

For Adam's birthday, my parents got us tickets to see U2 in Concert in Arlington!!! It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! Muse opened for them, and it was at the new Cowboy's stadium, which was really awesome. My parents and Ryan had gone the month before in DC, and told is it was one of the best concerts they'd ever been to. That's a pretty big statement, but means a lot coming from my parents, who are concert experts. :) We danced and sang through the concert, and enjoyed what awesome performers U2 is.

The best was how they used the concert venue to try and bring awareness to social issues around the world. After the concert, we went out for drinks with our friends Jen & Pat, and were laughing as we heard a girl inside singing "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" in bad karaoke. *shudder* All in a all, a wonderful night!! Adam and I had a blast, "Thank you Mom & Dad!!!"

Birthday

Happy Birthday to Me! :) Today was wonderful. Although I feel like there is nothing glamorous about turning 23, Adam made it a wonderful and special weekend. We spent the morning in Corinth at Cynthia & Mark's (his sister and brother-in-law) hanging out and eating lunch. For as close as we live, we never get to see each other-which is especially lame since we always have fun when we get together with them. At 2pm, we went to see the Broadway Tour of Mamma Mia--Adam's birthday surprise for me. Do gifts get any better then that?! No, they don't! Afterwards was dinner at....Piranhas (we're so predictable!) and an August birthdays party at the Reagans. We ended the night with a treat--live Mariachi music down the street. I am so not kidding, this guy was using a keyboard, microphone and speakers (facing out to the street)at 3am. Yes. So, we danced and hung out with the Mariachis. Good Day.
